The via ferrata is a south-facing wall. The route offers an aerial face: rocky passages formed by a succession of ledges, dihedrals and overhangs. Three sections: the Cabri, the Chamois and the Bouquetin, which may or may not be linked. Numerous athletic, more or less sustained passages in the 2nd and 3rd sections should be tackled by accomplished or supervised ferratists.
Grading: 3 sections AD+, TD, TD
Length: 900 m
Duration :
1st section 1h
2nd section 1h45
3rd section 2h30
Departure altitude: 1030 m
Maximum altitude: 1325 m (arrival altitude)
Approach time: 15 mn
Return time: 30 to 45 min (fairly slippery)
Special features: many rungs, little contact with the rock.
Required height: 1.40 m minimum.
Equipment hire from Bouvet Sport, the Arbr'acadabra adventure course in Abondance or Trincaz Sports in La Chapelle d'Abondance.
This is an interesting via in the sporty genre: a long, tough traverse, aerial throughout, but particularly at the start and end of the route, with large, smooth, direct-climb slabs. The difficulty of these 3 sections is progressive, with short overhangs and prolonged overhangs with 200m of gas in the back. Two escape routes separate the sections, allowing you to exit and return via the upper section. This is a normal iron route with some good rock holds.
Winter closure from 15/11 to 15/04.
