On September 20 and 21, Abondance Abbey celebrates its architectural heritage during the European Heritage Days! Discover this emblematic monument of the Chablais region with a host of free activities.
Saturday September 20 and Sunday September 21, join the Abondance Abbey team for the European Heritage Days!
With a focus on architectural heritage, this weekend will be an opportunity to (re)discover this building, the first site to be classified as a Historic Monument in the Haute-Savoie department in 1875, and to look back over the 150 years of this protective measure.
ON THE PROGRAM :
- Guided tour of the Abbey of Abondance: history of the religious communities, discovery of the 15th-century murals and a look at the architecture. At the end of the tour, explore the exhibition “De l'histoire à l'art : patrimoines sacrés en vallée d'Abondance” (From history to art: sacred heritage in the Abondance valley), housed in the former monastery.
Saturday, September 20 at 3pm and Sunday, September 21 at 2.30pm and 4.30pm
- Visit the Abbey from top to bottom: the monastery's roof structure: like experts, explore the monastery's roof structure and discover its secrets!

- Explore the Abbey on your mobile: As soon as you enter, scan a QR-Code to access our mobile tour site. The classic tour lets you enjoy the site at your own pace and to your heart's content! Available in English, French, Italian and German.

- Follow Augustin, a mischievous young novice, as he takes you on a fun tour of the Abbey of Abondance. Answer his questions and take up his challenges! Available in French, English and German.

- MuséOjeux activity bags: explore the abbey and have fun at the same time, thanks to the activities provided in the MuséOjeux bag: observation, singing ... a whole program to share with family and friends!

- Balade Branchée - A tour of the village of Abondance: Touch, smell, observe... On this unique stroll, you'll explore Abondance and discover the many uses of wood.

- Abondance : Tout un fromage - Treasure hunt : The people of Abondance are in shock! A precious symbol of their heritage has been stolen. Your mission: find this symbolic document as you scour Abondance and stop the wretched thieves. Are you up to the challenge? Starter kit available on request from reception - ages 12 and up.
Saturday September 20 and Sunday September 21 - 9.30am-12pm and 2pm-6pm - Equipment required: Smartphone (with internet connection) and closed-toe shoes.
- Phil'art phonik" concert: Music in a septet... !? A challenge taken up by the “Phil'Art phonik” ensemble, which chooses to revisit all types of repertoire, from chamber music to symphonic works, with a small, variable-geometry ensemble. Our 7 musicians from the shores of Lake Geneva offer an eclectic program at the crossroads of aesthetics in the unique setting of the Abbey cloister.

- "Entre ciel et pierre - Chronique d'une restauration" exhibition: Take a behind-the-scenes look at the restoration of the roofs at Abondance Abbey. Follow every step of this exceptional project, where ancestral craftsmanship meets the challenges of heritage conservation.

- "Focus abondance : une abbaye à la lumière de ses parchemins retrouvés" exhibition: When the art of photography meets history, the Abbey of Abondance and its outbuildings reveal their metamorphoses.

From the shores of Lake Geneva, access via RD22 or detour via Plateau de Gavot (depending on season), towards Vallée d'Abondance (approx.40 min).
Free parking, electric recharging points, bicycle parking.
Entrance to the site is at Place de l'abbatiale, in the heart of the village.
Access to the church is independent (no visits during services).
On foot: from the village center, walk to Place de l'Abbatiale along the “Montée du Cloître” past the town hall and presbytery, then under the porch. The entrance to the site, located on the square, is a little further up on the right.

Parking available at the entrance or in the village center.
Served by EVA'D line C during school vacations.
